Long long ago (In the ancient me),there were ten suns in the sky. In scorching heat, some people have died of sunstroke and dehydraon and all of plants can not survive. As a
result, the world was being destroyed by heat. At this me,a handsome young man whose name is Houyi appeared. He want to save the world.
One day, he came to a broad field with his arrows. Then he placed an arrow against the bow-string and drew it to the full, then let his arrow go one of the suns was killed and fell down. But sll the earth was buring. So Houyi drew the bow and let the arrow go again.
When the ninth fell from the sky. Houyi was told that the world needed one sun to give its warmth and light. Finally, houyi gained two magical pill that can make someone who take it become immortal.
And Houyi wanted to give one to his girlfriend chang'e. Unfortunately, one evening, Houyi didn't at home, a thief broke into his house and order chang'e surrender the pill. Chang'e felt very helpless and didn't know how to do. So she swallowed the two pills. In the end, chang'e flew to the moon.

相传在很久很久之前，天上有十个太阳，它们是东方天帝的儿子，十个太阳每天一换，将光亮带向人间。但是时间久了之后，十个太阳觉得非常无聊，就一起出现在了天空上面，这下子人们可就受不了了。
幸好有一个年轻的英雄后裔出现了，他是一个神射手，力大无穷、箭法超群，他不忍人们生活于苦难之中，就想要射下多余的九个太阳，帮助人们脱离困境。于是他一路翻山越岭，经历了重重磨难，最后来到了东海边，登上了一座大山。
后裔站在山顶，搭箭拉弓，瞄准天上的太阳，只听“嗖——嗖——”几声，他接连射下了九个太阳，只剩最后一个太阳还挂在天上，它害怕极了，老老实实的听后裔的吩咐，继续为大地和人们贡献光亮。此后后裔也被无数人视为射日英雄，受到了崇敬与爱戴。

后羿射日，是中国古代神话传说。远古的时候，大地出现了严重的旱灾。炎热烤焦了森林，烘干了大地，晒干了禾苗草木。原来，帝俊与羲和生了10个孩子都是太阳，他们住在东方海外，海水中有棵大树叫扶桑。
10个太阳睡在枝条的底下，轮流跑出来在天空执勤，照耀大地。但有时，他们一齐出来给人类带来了灾难。为了拯救人类，后羿张弓搭箭，向那9个太阳射去。只见天空出现爆裂的火球，坠下一只只三足乌。最后，天上只留下一个太阳。
科学解释：
NASA华裔科学家赵丰教授认为：后羿射日事件其实是一次彗星撞击地球事件，类似于1994年levy-9彗星撞击木星事件的缩小版。因为彗星质地松散，当彗星被行星捕捉，在潮汐力作用下会发生解体成为一串天体，所谓九日，正是彗星解体为9块。
9块天体进入地球大气层后，因摩擦灼热成为似“太阳”的发光发热体，这便是山海经中“九日居e799bee5baa6e997aee7ad94e58685e5aeb9336下枝，一日居上枝”。接着这些看似“太阳”的物体便会很快一一撞击地球，因为彗星质地松散，撞击行星后并不会留下明显的陨石坑，所以陨落之处一片焦黑泥烂，这便是山海经中“羿射九日，落为沃焦”的原因。
彗星撞击行星事件在漫长的太阳系历史里是经常发生的，后羿射日很可能是远古先民亲眼目睹了一次彗星撞击地球的盛况，惊恐万分而又无能为力的他们只好向其射箭，从而留下了这相传千年的传奇神话故事-后羿射日。
